Jeddah, February 23, 2025 – Saudi Arabia is hosting the 27th edition of the GCC Golf Championship for Men and the 16th edition for Youth, which officially kicked off today, Sunday, at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Jeddah, bringing together a distinguished lineup of golfers from across the Gulf region.
The championship features teams representing the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, competing for the title in a highly competitive atmosphere that reflects the growth of golf in the region.
This event coincides with Saudi Arabia's Founding Day celebrations, adding a national dimension to the tournament by merging sports competition with a tribute to the Kingdom’s rich history and achievements across various fields, including sports, which continues to make significant strides in enhancing Saudi Arabia’s regional and global presence.
The official opening ceremony of the championship was attended by several sports officials from the Saudi Golf Federation and GCC golf federations, alongside elite players and spectators. The ceremony featured traditional performances, as well as the parade of participating teams, each proudly carrying their national flag in a festive display of Gulf unity.
In her opening speech, Ms. Abeer Al-Johani, Director of the Saudi Golf Federation Office, emphasized the importance of the championship, which aligns with the Kingdom's Founding Day celebrations and strengthens sports collaboration among Gulf nations. She highlighted that hosting this event reflects the remarkable development of golf in the Kingdom and the region, reinforcing its presence on the global golf map.
She added:"Today, we are not only celebrating the launch of the GCC Golf Championship but also reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s commitment to developing this sport both locally and internationally. Through supporting young talents, hosting major tournaments, and fostering a golf culture among future generations, this championship serves as a platform to strengthen bonds of brotherhood and fair competition among the people of the Gulf."
