The mission of the Arab Golf Federation is to streamline the affairs of the game in the Arab world and enhance the overall development of golf by creating healthy playing opportunities for its members. Recognised by the R&A - the game's governing body based at St Andrews -- and the Arab Olympic Committee.
Ever since its formation the organisation has worked tirelessly to realize a strong potential of growth in the region while maintaining a commitment to the integrity of the game. The credit for laying a strong foundation goes to Lebanon's Saleem Salam, who was appointed the first chairman of the Federation. Under his inspiring leadership, Lebanon led the Arab Golf Federation for the first 15 years of its existence.
After his death, Khaled Abu Taleb of Egypt took over the reins and led the Federation until 2008. Elections were held in 2009 during the 29th Arab Golf Championship in Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE when H.E. Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi was elected Chairman and Adel Al Zarouni as the Secretary-General for a four-year term.
In 2021, His Excellency Yasir Al Rumayyan was appointed President with Majed Al Sorour becoming Secretary General, following their great work in Saudi Arabia.
The Arab Golf Federation recognises the true value that this great game can deliver, across all Arab societies. The Federation is fully committed to focusing on how it can support the game’s governing bodies, in their mission to develop the game around the world, as well as mobilising our collective resources to maximise opportunities for Arab nations with the primary aim of boosting participation.
