First Round Player Quotes –
Netherland’s Davey Porsius who was tied for 4th place after the 1st round of the tournament, is now one of the co-leaders with a two-day total of 11 under-par. He made 9 birdies and 2 bogeys during round 2, for a 7 under-par, 65. Davey has had a few setbacks in his amateur career, however, things changed in 2018 when he played in the KLM Open and then qualified for the Alps Tour. He became a winner on the Alps Tour in 2022 with his win at the Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open. After today’s round, he was really pleased on how he was able to finish his round, “I was -5 through my last 6 holes hitting it really close and making the putts, that will be some good momentum I can bring into the final round tomorrow. Heading into the last round I obviously will do my best to capture a win to start the season strong.” Davey went on to add that he found: “the greens were way better this morning. Yesterday afternoon I struggled on the greens, the balls were going off line quite easily so became a bit frustrating. This morning the greens were fresher which helped obviously being able to make more putts.”
Egyptian amateur Issa Abou El Ela continues to co-lead after two rounds with a two-day total of 11 under-par. He made 1 eagle, 1 bogey and 5 birdies during his round today. After his round, he was very happy about his iron game today, “I kept hitting it very close to give myself a lot of chances today.” In the middle of his round, he had a momentum change with an eagle and 2 birdies, “those 3 holes gave me a lot of confidence heading into the rest of the round.” He was also very pleased about being in contention heading into the final round, “tomorrow I will be more aggressive but I will still try to keep my game plan the same hitting fairways and greens and try to put pressure on everyone that way. Players on this tour are very good so I need to stay focused and do my best. Being in contention here at home is amazing, I have a lot of support. I’m just going to try and do my best”
Quim Vidal from Spain had 1 eagle, 6 birdies and 2 bogeys in his round today for a two-day total of 10 under-par and is in 3rd place only 1 stroke off the lead. After his round, he was pleased on how he began his round with an eagle and a birdie in the first 4 holes, “I started really good and that gave me confidence for the rest of the round. I was able to just keep playing my game and wasn’t in a rush to make birdies, I knew they would come.” Quim went on to add that today his game was a perfect combination of everything that helped him put his 6 under-par round together. Heading into the final round tomorrow, he “want to stay focused and do the same thing I have been doing the past two days. Just follow the plan shot by shot, control what I can control and see what will happen.”
Tied for 4th place with a two-day total of 8 under-par: Netherland’s Lars Keunen and Italy’s Federico Maccario.
